If you've ever had a pet who needed surgery or a procedure, you know how long & slow the recover days go by (for you and for them!) Keeping them quiet & calm is a chore in itself, so keeping their mind busy is a must! Here are our favorite tips for making those post-op days go by a little more quickly:
1. Training!
When your pet starts to feel like him or herself again, but still needs to rest, their mind gets restless. Now is the perfect time to distract them with some gentle training - teach a new trick, perfect their stay, or re-visit old tricks. For hands-free training, try our Pooch Pouch!
2. A Lick Mat
There’s nothing more boring for our pets than having to rest when they want to PLAY! Fortunately, a licking mat keeps their mind engaged & busy for extended periods of time. Our Snack & Distract Mat is equipped with silicone, tri-nib tips that engage their senses & make treat retrieval a little tricky. For even longer distraction time, freeze their favorite treat in it - try greek yogurt, pumpkin, or peanut butter!
3. Music or a Dog-friendly show
When it comes to time in the crate or playpen or if you have to leave the house, playing soft music (try these playlists) or a show featuring other dogs can keep bored pets slightly entertained and prevent them from going stir-crazy
4. Hide & Go Seek As with treat training, hide and go seek is a great game to keep your pup’s mind busy while they can’t play outside. Hide a few treats around the house (keep it to one or two rooms if you don’t want them running around) and let them sniff it out! You may need to show them the first few treats until they understand the game, and then they’ll be thrilled to play!
